Treadmill Workstation - Steelcase Walkstation

I often complain about sitting in front of the computer all day, but the Steelcase Walkstation has made me realize that it could be worse.

I could be in a nightmare scenario where I’m running on a treadmill attached to my PC, like a big rat on a wheel. I’m only surprised they didn’t think to use the treadmill to generate the electricity for the PC. That would have added some additional humiliation when you get tired and you and your PC simultaneously crash.

What kind of masochistic, hyperactive, over-caffeinated freak would buy this $6,500 torture device? This is worse than those embryonic gel pods in the Matrix. At least there you dreamed you had a better life. Can you imagine corporations the world over buying these? Cubicle dwellers running on them all day, generating electricity for the grid while working on company reports? If they fall down, they just get flushed and replaced.

This tortuous apparatus is essentially a standing-height desk attached to a treadmill, combining work with exercise for the ultimate in multi-tasking. Made by office furniture company Steelcase, the Walkstation is scheduled to make its formal debut next month for a reported price of $6,500. (That would pay for a lot of time at the gym, not to mention doughnuts.) While clearly not our cup of tea, we know more than a few people who would love to have one. The alpha executives, in particular, could use them to prove their superiority over lesser simians.
